They propose to meet you somewhere else- This is a warning sign that probably they don't want you to see the conditions of the breeding grounds. Be wary when they insist you meet some place other than where they breed the animals. Good breeders have clean, safe living environment for the bitches and pups.
The dogs live in cages - Dogs that live their entire lives in a cage are commonly reffered to as Puppy Mills. This is considered the scourge in the dog industry. Puppies bred through Mills are usually prone to diseases of the knees and eyes. Responsible breeders do not breed dogs in mills. It also turns out that most of these dogs are sold through pet stores.
